The Five Things All Proficient Leaders Display

Many may not realize this but online gaming guilds are very much alive. Guilds can come in all forms, from effortless gaming to immersed raiding; the members will determine how it will take form. I’ve played many games in my day, some as a leader and a few as a modest follower; one thing I’ve noticed regardless is the capability of key individuals to produce a following and empower these same followers. Often times these people are reluctant to lead; it’s up to you to distinguish and embolden them to take on the part. Look for a player who has these qualities:

Humor: Often times a very social player with a good sense of humor will have the ability to sway and motivate players to achieve something. I’m not talking about shoddy, fleeting wit either. Self expression is your item of interest. Glib or sarcasm, when weilded correctly, can yeild great results.

Accessibility: You can’t guide while offline. Remember that your leader should emphasize being online and lead by example in this case. If the player you have in mind for leadership can’t seem to log in regularly, your guild will benefit more if they’re resituated in a supportive role instead.

Fight Resolve: We’ve all seen the conflict that occurs due to the internet’s power to mask someone’s true identity. A good leader can identify the conflicts that need to be addressed and shut them down before they result in damaged guild reputation. Your leader shouldn’t try to fix every problem that may rise; help them identify the squabbles that can be neglected. Adults are much better equipped to handle problems as opposed to children; I know some adults can surely act the latter but we’ll attempt to remain positive in this article.

Diplomacy: Dealing with challenger guilds, especially ones having more success than yours, takes patience and foresight. It’s the guild leaders job to coordinate with these competitive guilds and prevent things from getting nasty. One great way to do this is to remember that both clans have mutual goals, whether it be loot, growth, reputation, or what-have-you; There is always a benefit for both parties, simply unlock it and run with it.

Loyalty: Loyalty is particularly important for smaller guilds who are looking to grow in an already competitive environment. Leadership’s goal is to remain stoic and only promise members what it can actually deliver. It’s often easier to tell where someone’s loyalty lies by seeing how committed to the game they are. Chances are your guild leader is pretty well attached if they’re spending money on a voice-chat server or website. Would you jump ship on your friends after making promises and spending your own money to make those promises happen? Probably not.

Leadership is an art that is rare in the online world With each generation of gamer becoming more and more self-centered the spirit of leadership becomes suppressed. Leadership is somewhat of a dwindling art in online communities; if you’re thinking about taking the job just remember to put others first and you won’t go wrong. After all, everyone you invest time in will remember and respect you. Can you handle it?
